How to Get to the Thyssen Museum
The Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum sits in the Villahermosa Palace, at Paseo del Prado 8 in Madrid. It is one of the best-connected spots in the city: the metro, buses and the Cercanías commuter stations all leave you just a few minutes' walk away. Here are all the ways to get there.
Thyssen Museum address
The museum's main entrance faces the Paseo del Prado, almost opposite the Neptune fountain and a step away from Plaza de las Cortes.

By metro: Banco de España (L2)
The nearest metro station is Banco de España (line 2), just a few minutes' walk along the Paseo del Prado. As you exit, head down towards the boulevard and you will see the palace on your right.
Also handy, a little farther but very central, are Sevilla (L2) and Sol (L1, L2 and L3), both a short walk down the street from Puerta del Sol. From Atocha (L1) you can walk up along the Paseo del Prado itself, passing right by the Prado Museum.
By bus
Numerous EMT lines run along the Paseo del Prado and the nearby streets, with stops very close to the museum. It is a convenient option if you are staying in the centre or near Gran Vía. Check the closest stop to your starting point in the app or on the shelter screens, as routes can change.
By Cercanías commuter train
Atocha station (Renfe Cercanías) is a pleasant walk up along the Paseo del Prado; on the way you will pass the Botanical Garden and the Prado Museum. It is the best option if you arrive by train from outside Madrid or from the airport via Cercanías.
Walking from the centre
The Thyssen is right in the heart of the city, so walking is often the fastest way:
- From Sol: about 10–12 minutes down the Carrera de San Jerónimo to the Paseo del Prado.
- From Sevilla: just 5–7 minutes along the Carrera de San Jerónimo.
- From Atocha: about 12–15 minutes up the Paseo del Prado, past the Prado Museum.
- From the Retiro: crossing the boulevard by the Neptune area, around 5 minutes.
By car and parking
The area has heavy traffic and regulated on-street parking (SER), so we recommend public transport. If you do come by car, there are public car parks around the Paseo del Prado, Plaza de las Cortes and nearby streets. Prices and opening hours are indicative, so it is worth confirming with each car park before your visit.
